Good to Know: OSAP and Fee Deferals

Good to Know: FAQs about Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) and Fee deferrals

Where do I go to apply for OSAP?
You can complete an OSAP application online: https://osap.gov.on.ca/.

When should I apply?
If you haven’t already applied and you would like to, you should apply as soon as possible. Please note it can take 6-8 weeks to process your OSAP application.

What is a fee deferral, and who is eligible to defer tuition fees?
A fee deferral is a process whereby you become registered without paying your minimum payment by the due date. All fee deferrals should be submitted by August 24, 2010. Deferrals are intended for students who will be receiving funding from a government student loan or a scholarship during the fall. Having deferred your fees, you are still responsible for paying your tuition fees as soon as possible. A monthly service charge of 1.5% (19.56% per annum) will be applied to your account starting November 15 on any outstanding balance. If you are receiving a student loan or scholarship and do not have any previous outstanding balance, you may be eligible for a fee deferral.

How do I defer my fees?
If you are receiving a government student loan, you can request a fee deferral using the Student Web Service – ROSI.

If you are an Ontario resident and have received an OSAP assessment, you can log on and submit your fee deferral request. If you have submitted your OSAP application recently, it can take a few days for the system to approve your request for a deferral.

If you are the resident of another province and have received a notice of assessment from your province’s student loan program, fax your notice of assessment along with a cover sheet noting your name, student number and Faculty (Engineering) to the Office of Admissions & Awards at 416-978-7022. After three business days, you will be able to submit your request for a fee deferral using the ROSI service.

To access the fee deferral request through ROSI, select the link for “Financial Accounts” option and then “OSAP/Government Student Aid Fee Deferral”. You will then be taken through a series of steps to process your deferral.

If you are receiving a scholarship greater than the value of your minimum payment to register:
Fax a copy of your scholarship letter, along with a copy of the undergraduate deferral form available online here to 416-946-7027.
