Faculty Spotlight: Goldie Nejat

Professor Goldie Nejat is an avid roboticist. She and her research team consisting of both graduate and undergraduate students enjoy designing and developing intelligent robots in all different shapes and sizes for a number of everyday applications including healthcare/medical, search and rescue, security, recreation and manufacturing. Two of her robots, MARP, a rugged mobile robot for search and rescue applications, and Brian, a human-like social robot, have even had their 15 minutes of fame when they were featured on the Discovery Channel this past spring.

Professor Nejat also teaches courses offered by the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (MIE) on mechatronics and robotics. She loves to discuss robot design with her class, highlighting all the different applications that robots are currently being designed for and how robots will inevitably change our future. A number of you may meet Professor Nejat during your first year experience as she sometimes presents communication seminars for first year students as well as TrackOne seminars on exciting research being conducted in MIE. She also mentors a number of students. In addition to teaching and research, Professor Nejat enjoys hiking, boating and making wine.
