Music To The Ears
It’s a well known fact that many people with strengths in math and science also possess musical talent. This is certainly the case here—engineering students are some of the most musically talented on campus!
If you play an instrument, direct, write music, or just love all things melodic, there are a number of ways to get involved musically within the Faculty—no matter how experienced or talented you are!
If any of the following piques your interest, in the Fall you’ll definitely want to check out the Clubs Fair to meet with these groups in-person and find out how you can join!
Lady Godiva Memorial Bnad (yes, it’s “Bnad”, not “Band”)
Love making music and having fun? Perhaps you’ve never played an instrument before? No matter what your skill level, the LGMB is looking for spirited engineering students to bring excitement to engineering events around the year. LGMB is a fantastic way to get involved at school while having fun and meeting a ton of great people around the Faculty. No musical talent required!
Skule™ Stage Band
Comprised mostly of engineering students, the Skule™ Stage Band gets together once a week to practice music and learn more about jazz. The Stage Band typically has two major performances each year: Jazz @ Oscar’s and Cannonball. The Band also plays free concerts in the Sandford Fleming Atrium from time to time.
Skule™ Jazz Combo
The Skule™ Jazz Combo is a small, intimate ensemble of students who enjoy learning and exploring improvisational jazz in a small-band setting. It is primarily performance-oriented, featured at dinner dances, Faculty events, and many other events throughout the year. Comprised of beginners and seasoned pros, the Combo’s only requirement is an instrument and a passion for jazz.
Skule™ Orchestra
Skule™ Orchestra is a 40-member symphonic orchestra of string, wind, and percussion instruments. The orchestra is a place for students to have fun while performing a challenging repertoire ranging from Bach to Bartok. With weekly rehearsals and tons of exciting gigs throughout the year, Skule™ Orchestra is a great place to meet others with a passion for music. If you played an instrument in high school, this could be the ensemble for you!
