Skule™ Nite
Every year the Engineering Society produces a musical comedy revue called Skule™ Nite. It’s a series of comedy sketches and musical numbers with many of the acts making jokes about engineers or what it’s like to be an engineering student. The show is a huge production that sold out all of its performances for the 2008 run. Over 80 people contribute to the show including a cast of 18. The show is written, directed and produced completely by energetic and enthusiastic students.
Skule™ Nite started in 1921 and was originally held at Toronto’s famous Massey Hall. The show moved to Hart House theatre in order to get women cast members into the building. At this time women were not allowed in Hart House. The switch to Hart House happened in 1923, making this past year’s show, SkuleTM Nite 0T8, its 85th at Hart House theatre.
If you’ve always wanted to be up on stage, be sure to audition to be in the cast this fall. If being in the spotlight doesn’t interest you, you can sign up to be a part of the magic behind the scenes. Skule™ Nite also performs with a live band, made up of engineering students. Many students will participate in the show every single year, some even return after graduation to be a part of it!
All First Year students who purchase a F!rosh Kit will get a free ticket to Skule Nite, so even if you decide not to get involved with the show, be sure to go check it out in March for a night of hilarity.
